This Week On The Farm . . .

School's mostly out for everyone so the summer has started, and all the kids rejoice! I know summertime can be hard for some because of childcare. When I was working full time, we'd have the boys signed up for all kinds of difference weeklong camps. It's so different now that they are older. I miss those crazy hectic days....sometimes. If you need a little break and a little peaceful relaxation, let me introduce you to our little cabin near the Blue Ridge Parkway. I realized that i haven't talked about the cabin in a while. We bought it in the fall of 2020 and have invested a lot of time and energy into fixing it up and making it the best we can. It wasn't completely finished when we bought it so that was step one but then I had to figure out Airbnb and VRBO to get it up for rent. It's surprised us for the most part with how often it gets booked. We actually don't get to stay there very much. (that's a good thing for now). It's a simple one-bedroom cabin but it's the perfect size to just get away. If you're interested check out the VRBO listing!

Jeff and Gavin have also been working on clearing a small area in the woods. Slowly they work maybe an hour most evenings. Apparently pulling up tree roots is very difficult, and our tractor gets maxed out on its capabilities. Gavin is really wanting a nice place for a food plot for deer this fall. Truly this project should have been completely at least a month or so ago, but life happens, and things don't always get finished around here when we want them to be finished. I personally think the spot is also a great location for a future homesite for one of the boys, but we will see if that happens one day. It's hard to think about things like that sometimes. We've had a lot of growing up around here lately with Garrett graduating college, Gavin getting his full license and the thoughts of the early graduation for him at the end of this year. This mom is overloaded!

I thought last week that I'd have pictures and videos of baby pigs running around to be able to show but we do not. Bertha, as of now, hasn't had babies that we've seen. I'm beginning to get concerned and hope that she's just later than we thought with her farrowing. We've tried providing her with a better, less stressful environment this time so I'm just praying that it helps, and we just miscalculated the due date. We are still trying to find new homes for Champ, her babies daddy. He is also a registered Tamworth and will be sold as a breeding boar, not for meat, so the price is set because of his value. I want him going to a good location with a good farmer.

I hope you have a great week!
