This Week On The Farm . . .

This Week On The Farm . . .

As we're getting prepared for Jeff and Gavin to leave in February, we decided to reduce the number of animals we have on the farm. The first ones to leave will be the hogs. We said goodbye to Bertha, who just had babies on June 1st, last week. Next will be Champ, our boar that has served his purpose for us. And, lastly, will be Dorothy and the two gilts that Bertha had. Within the next two weeks they will all be gone. When Jeff gets back, we will re-evaluate the hog situation and decide how to do it even better next year. We're thinking of trying a different breed and redoing the fencing.

As far as the garden goes, I'm practically done with it for the summer. I have fall plants that need to go in the dirt but other than that, everything else is going to be used to collect seeds. Seed collecting is a new practice for me. I've always just bought new seeds the next year, but I decided to learn this practice of seed saving and figure it out. I want to save the seeds from the best plants, so I don't have to rely on the stores next year. Plus, one of my best-selling products online are my Luffa Seeds!! Can you believe that? It's definitely fun learning something new and then providing this amazing product to others.

I've canned about as much as I possible am able to can. Pickles and pickles and pickles. My canned food has also been a product that people have loved buying. It's appreciated so much because so much goes into every jar. When people appreciate that it makes my heart just fill up with joy.
