Day 10 - Thru Hiking The Appalachian Trail

Day 10 - Thru Hiking The Appalachian Trail

Mile 100!!

The first hundred miles are now past them. I would bet that first 100 is probably as tough as the last 100 will be. They didn't even take a selfie!! I'm still working on their photography and videography skills. We have to be patient with them. They also saw Albert Fire Tower today which is a fairly well-known point, but they didn't take a picture. :( As you'll see in the video, they did have an eventful day.

They both received trail names today! Traditionally a trail name is given to a thru hiker by another thru hiker. You can accept the name or not accept it. I believe more recently hikers have been giving themselves their trail name but that's just not as fun to me. Watch the video to the end and you'll hear the stories of both of their trail names.

However, Gavin has strictly forbidden people at home to call him his trail name. He said it's only for while he's on the trail. His name is Gavin.

Water Source

I wanted to share pictures of the ways they get water on the trail. Sometimes it's a nice creek but sometimes it's a pipe in the ground or even a stick with water flowing through it. They use an app call Far Out. It's pricey to buy but it gives current information from hikers literally right now. A water source that was in the guidebook may have dried up for some reason, but the Far-Out app will have a new location of a water source. It's crucial information. I'm very thankful for that app.

Started the day with a beautiful mountain view and ended it by a campfire. Doesn't sound too bad.

Gavin advice...."Do not run a 5K when you have 15 miles to hike. Just don't do it. Just take your time and waste 2 hours."
